Increase your GPRS speed with this small tip

Just change the DNS server from your mobile provider to the OpenNIC one. It especially works with Indian gprs providers. Mine is BSNL and after using this small tip the speed has dramatically gone up. I even can listen to Internet radio on my phone now. This should work on any mobile the below tip is for windows mobile, but if you dig into the settings of your gprs connection and find the DNS server which will be blank. Just change them as mentioned below and watch your internet speed go up on your mobile.Update

Now using google dns which is much faster DNS 8.8.8.8 and Alt DNS is 8.8.4.4 more about this here

For Windows Mobile Pocket PC- From the Start Menu, select ‘Settings’, then select the ‘Connections’ tab- Select the ‘Connections’ option- Select the first of the two ‘Manage Existing Connections’ options- Highlight your GPRS Internet connection, and click edit- Click ‘Next’- Click ‘Advanced’- Click ‘Servers’- Click ‘Use specific server address’ and enter DNS as ‘217.115.138.24′, Alt DNS as ‘83.217.93.246′. You can leave both WINS settings as ‘0.0.0.0′ at this stage.- Click ‘OK’- Click ‘Finish’I  forgot the site where I found this trick, i would have happy linked to it if knew what the URL was…

The best way to get the bsnl Gprs setting on your nokia n73 is to go to http://cellone.in/cellone_msp.htm and click onthe region you are from and give your mobile number and bsnl will send you the settings in an sms and just install thosesettings when the sms’s arrive.be careful about using gprs unless you have unlimited account you will be paying 20 Rs for 1 mb of data usuage.

  22. prasanth says:

reply to moizit looked around the airtel site.and couldn’t find the settings for you windows mobile.the best option would be to call the call center and getthe settings from them.or email them at here 121@airtelindia.comIts so confusing. there is no mention of gprs service itscalled airtel live or something and its very complicated. On bsnl you pay 200 Rs etc on your post paid mobileconnections and you are good to go and they even havea site to get the settings.Good luck.

  27. prasanth says:

You are using it on your pc.It is a slow connection there is not much we can improvebecause the connection itself is slow.the gprs trick works well if you are using web on your mobile.still try and change the dns setting on your pc.go to https://www.opendns.com/start and they will tell you how to change thethank youprasanthprasanthtech.blogspot.com

  28. prasanth says:

reply to ajuI heard that airtel doen’t allow you to change your dns in that case there is not much we can do.115.2 kbps connection means only 14 kb speed.that is when its working at full strength which it never will. That is the big fraud everyone falls for. we think the connectionwill be around 115 kb but we only get 14 kb because its115 kbps kilobits per secondand not115 KBps kilobytes per secondEven 14 kb is good enough for browsing but if you can’tchange the dns you will not get that speed. you will onlyget 5 – 10 kb.Since airtel doen’t allow you to change the dnsthere is not much we can do.

  29. banshan k says:

Hi there again Prasanth!I really don’t know if this is the right forum but I wanted to ask your opinion, which would be better you think, a nokia 5700 or a nokia n80 given that their prices are now close to each other. I want a phone thats got a fast processor, stability, blazing internet speed (at least class ten gprs being a required option here, since i work in a remote area in the northeast where bsnl is my only form of connection to the outside world:-)), good talk time, a decent camera and something sturdy since we guys tend to keep our phones in our pockets with all the keys etc…Or could you suggest other viable options in the sub Rs. 14000 range?

  30. banshan k says:

Hey thanks in advance. Was in such a hurry to post, forgot my manners. Lol!!!

  31. prasanthtech says:

reply to banshan ktry this link to see the comparison betweennokia 5700 and nokia n80http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone2=1347&idPhone1=1936Here is my take on both of those devices.Nokia 5700 : twist the keypad for camera and other features. has A2DP so you can use wireless earphones to listen to your music. only had a 2 mega pixel.Nokia n80 : its a slider has 3 meaga pixel camera but no A2DP. has a bigger screen that the 5700.So hope that is easier for you to decide now.i would go for nokia n80 .if you are into smartphone then have a look athttp://www.cafegadgets.com/product_detail.php?cat_id=173&product_id=547&pid=172thank youprasanth

  32. Losan says:

Pls help me.am using nokia 6230i and airtel mobile office (gprs)for internet, only 2-3 kbs download speeds.can you help me to improve the browsing speed with open DNS!

  33. prasanthtech says:

reply to Losanas far i know from other users airtel doesn’t allow you to change the dns servers so you can’t change them.try operamini.com and download the operamini browser which is free it will help a lot and don’t forget if you don’t have unlimited bandwidth be careful the bill will be huge at the end of the month.good luck

  34. Losan says:

I have been using opera mini since 2006,also the new opera beta feels very superfast.but got slow perfomance when connecting pc with usb.actualy that’s my problem.Anyway thanks for the advice, you have been very helpful for us.keep up the good work.

  35. prasanthtech says:

reply to LosanWhile connecting to the pc too you can’t change the dns because airtel doen’t allow you to.And those are the kind of speeds you will get on a gprs connection.

  36. mani says:

    browsing speed will increase

  37. prasanthtech says:

Yes it will increase the browsing speed.this is what i know, the mobile companies provide slow dns server to mobile users in order to slow them down. So that they only use small amount of bandwidth. So if you use other dns server you will get fast service. And i have noticed really big difference in my mobile browsing speeds after the dns change.i am using Bsnl.i heard that Airtel doesn’t allow this change.i also have changed it on my reliance data card and there too the connection seems faster after the change.Good luck

Hi Prasanth,I’m using Nokia N72 and I enabled GPRS on it from BSNL. I can access internet through the mobile. But when trying to connect internet by my laptop (Compaq with nuilt in bluetooth) using the mobile phone(via bluetooth), its failing to register my laptop on the net. Please help..(Its saying that the connection parameters are wrong)Reply from prasanthAs far as i know i think you need to connect the nokia n72with cable to your laptop. I don’t think the mobile modeminternet connection works on bluetooth.Try the cable that came with nokia n72, and also look for amodem driver in the cd’s you got with the n72.Don’t expect huge speeds only as good or even slowerthan dail up.

  41. Narayan says:

hi Prasant,i have BSNL WLL connection (phone model AXW L800 from Acexxtel) and applied for internet facility plan250. But i dont have data cable..no body knows what data cable to use…even BSNL Staff dont know how to use. i m from Guwahati.Reply from Prasanth As far i know i don’t think you can find data cable for thosephones. Just use line out and connect that phone jack to yourmodel port on pc. I think you can only use it with bsnl dial upconnection and not as a gprs modem.I am not sure how you would use gprs on this kind of phone. youneed a normal phone that comes with data cable. And also if youplan to buy a phone first ask them and make sure it can be used asmodem because not all phone have this facility. You will only get around 6kb or so speed with gprs.So why not go for the broadband connection.

  42. Amit says:

Dear PrashantPl give tips to enhance gprs speed.I m using Sony ericsson k510i / nokia 3230 with cellone(BSNL) post paid connection to connect invernet on Vista on my pc. Connect the mobile via the data cable you got with the phone.2. Get the modem software from the cd that you received when you bought phone.3. the give your username and password and click connect. And that should help you connect. Remember to allow this connection through firewall etc.If after doing all these if it doesn’t connect i can’t help you mush after that because there are too many things that could be causing the problem so hope you understand.

  46. Nikhil says:

Hi Prashant, i just changed the DNS server in my Airtel mobile office settings, but the speeds are still the same. i use the nokia e61 and connect to my Laptop through bluetooth dongle(Microsim – Class 1). Can DNS settings be added in Browsers as well.Reply from Prasanth No it can only be added to the connection settings. You can use a proxy to connect and change the settings there. But since you are telling me that there is not much improvement i think its not going to be much useful.

  47. Aditya says:

I was also among one of those persons who thought
the airtel gprs connection is a pityful thing to subscribe to. But after subscribing to it, i am totally pleased like something. Exploiting all of the online resources, i have finally made my airtel connection bandwith enough to download over 10 gb(clear 10 gigabytes) per month. My download speed never concentrates around 5-6 kbite/s. I get a slow but faster (relative to other airtel gprs users) download speed of 11kbite/sec (averaged through uniform 3 hour downloading) which is 200% faster than my neighbourhood gprs users . My download speed varies from 8-20 kbps a day on my n70. The speed is sometimes 35kbps for instants on my pc. Well i am busy currently working on a major speed boosting activity by understanding the leaks in airtelgprs.Com. Anyone interested in boosting his airtel or giving some more airtel tweaks to me/sharing a rapidshare premium account in favour of my service/making money online for no labour can post me at adityara_2@yahoo.Co.In. -Thanks to prasanth for the not working tip.Reply from Prasanth I could so easily delete this comment. But here is what i have to say.Even on the best network getting 20kbps is hard. My phone after all the tweaks can only get 16 kpbs that too not always. But that is what I expect from a mobile gprs connection. If you have proof of getting that speed you claim then send me a screenshot of your speed test then I will believe you, you also have to show that you are using airtel. If you look at the comments most of the people who are complaining are airtel customers. I use bsnl so I have nothing against airtel because its not available in my area and they have no unlimited plan. I just pay 200 Rs for my unlimited bsnl plan how much do you pay.Good luck with your phone.

  48. Krishan says:

And start the modem driver give you user and password and connect that’s it.Good luck.

Hi prashant , I m using nokia 3230 with airtel mobile office in uttar perdesh my friend has using nokia 6630 he got 20 kbps with m.o but i got 1.35 to 2.65 kbps plse help to increase my m.o speedReply from Prasanth Sometimes the speeds depend on the number of mobiles in an area. It could be because the area your friend is has less people using net on mobile while in your are there could be more. Why not try your mobile in your friends area and see if you too get the same speed. If so then it should be the area problem. Not all the places in a city get same speed. Similarly like when many people at a place use mobiles they get busy signal. Then only trick i can tell is to change the dns. which you read in the above blog story.

hi prasanth. Very interesting site u have here. Read one of yourcomments that Airtel does not have a free GPRS broadband scheme(AIRTEL Kerala atleast). Well, they do have one and I subscribe to it. I thinkit costs Rs.2,500 a year. Speed is not bad average 4-6 Kbps. Sometimessustains at 10-13 Kbps and spurts to 30-40Kbps for a few seconds.Ofcourse there are bad moments too when the speed drops drastically. I useNokia 6230i and was looking to enhance speed to a steady 15 or so Kbps.Thats how I found your site. It didnt help me much but I atleast found outthat there are some limitations with Airtel and the dns thing. Keep upthe good work. Good luck.DeleepReply from Prasanth Thanks for talking time to write such a detailed comment aboutairtel. It good to know that they have a gprs offer. But its sad that they don’t allow users to change dns to a faster onelike the open dns.I am using iphone on my bsnl cellone gprs and its quite fast at 19kbit/sec.

  67. Deepak says:

I to 3kps.I havegot a decent speed with airtel mobile office in my n70 at bangalore but back kerala my browsing speed falls to 3kps.I have tried all types of optimizers, but all went in vain.Is it b’coz of my usb2 drivers as I’m having some windows signed drivers or is it b’coz of any tweak I’m really missing.Plz help meReply from Prasanth My problem was the opposite. When i am in cities, i get bad speed. But out of cities i get good speed.Since you tried all the tweaks, the only thing i can think of is may be your are using someone else network because airtel doesn’t have coverage in your area. To see this go to the network selection in your mobile and see what cellphone networks it shows. Sometimes the cellphone networks use other companies if they don’t have coverage in your area. The usb drivers should not be a problem because the connection is so slow that it should work even if the driver works half has good.So i have no more ideas.thank youprasanthprasanthtechblog.com

ok tell me is your DNS setting works on the BSNL sever or not .I am using internet no computer and its speed is only 3-5kbps.i want to speed up my mobile gprs signalReply from Prasanth that is best you can get on a mobile connection. so you are wasting time trying to improve your connection. just get broadband which is same price at 250 per month and you can get 30 kb download but there is 1gb limit though.try https://www.opendns.com/start and see there how to change your dns, i don’t think that will help much.thank youprasanthwww.prasanthtechblog.com

I am using Airtel Prepaid and I can use GPRS (Kerala) Rs 274 easy recharge unlimited usage for a month. The connection is really slow. 1-3 but it does go, rarely though, to 9 kbps.Wat are the speeds u get on ur BSNL. Any idea bout the other companies?Reply from PrasanthI use bsnl and pay around 200 Rs for unlimited gprs usage. But i also pay 250 minimum as a postpaidcustomer to get the unlimited option. If you look at it that way i think i pay 450 per month to getunlimited gprs on my mobile. The speed you can get on any device or carrier is around 1-10 kbps on gprs. Thats the maximum youcan get on edge which everyone is using. Hopefully 3g will come to India soon and we will get the 2 mbpsdownload speeds.Since i use an iphone as my mobile, the gprs seems quite fast. i use to use windows mobile earlier and i couldnever read big web page or anything for that matter. But with iphone i can read all the site and quite fast atthat too. So if you can get an iphone and you will really enjoy using gprs even at these low speeds of 1-10 kbps.I wish they made it unlimited even when roaming i would pay double what i pay to get that service.thank youprasanthprasanthtechblog.com

At times if you are not in a busy area you could get upto15kbps thats the maximum i think. The only way you can increase speed with airtel is by using browsers like operamini which is freelyavailable at operamini.comyou can’t do any other dns tricks because airtel will not allow that.also use mobile sites like m.yahoo.com etc rather than yahoo.comcheck out my mobile site where you can read rss feeds of all the major sites etc. you can get it atwww.prasanthtechblog.com/m/thank youprasanthprasanthtechblog.com

Even if you changeso far what i have heard is that it doesn’t make any difference. For example on the iphone there is no way to put the DNS settings. So all i can tell you is to get the lastest phones and you should see a dramatical increasein speed. There are no tweaks that i know of on airtel that will increase the speed. The old phone have old verison of gprs spec on them so the speed will be slow. For examplethe iphone has amazing speeds. Hi! Prashant. I use Cellone GPRS under 199 plan on my Moto Rokr E6 and check usage by sending sms to 333 at regular intervals. Of late, I find most of the time, the server is under maintenance or bill under preparation and I don’t get the usage details. Is there a way to know our daily usage with break up for call charges and GPRS usage charges, both at home and while roaming?Reply from PrasanthI have an unlimited account so i have not looked into that. The only way i look into the usage is by looking on the usage on my phone. On iphone its quite easy its in the settings. Look in the setting or other phone option there will be a way to check how much bandwidth you are using. That is the fast and best way to tell. Bsnl charges 0.02 Rs per kb which mean if you use 1 Mb you will pay 20 Rs or 2 Rs for 100 Kb. If you use a lot of internet get an unlimited account which only costs 200 Rs for unlimited per month.thank youprasanthhttp://www.prasanthtechblog.com

Dear Sir,I have BSNL broadband connection with Wi-Fi Modem. I want to connect the broadband via Wi-Fi to my windows 6 mobile phone. Can you please tell me the settings.Reply from PrasanthFirst things first try and find out which version is your wifi modem.Read this and see which one of these is your modemhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.11#Summaryand same with your windows mobile find out which standard of wifi does it haveif you have the same thing or the “n” standard they will work together.Once you turn the wifi on the windows mobile it should detect the wifi modem thenyou need to enter the password and other details to make it work.If they have the same then its just about setting the ip of you wifi modem into thewifi settings on your mobile. Also make sure you have sharing enabled on your wifimodem etc. Its little complicated to explain in just a post because there are manysmall things that needed to be tweaked right.thank youprasanthhttp://www.prasanthtechblog.com

hai prashant,I really need the settings for Airtel Gprs for my Iphone 1.1.4 in India, Kolkata…As i cannot access any site as the Iphone says that could not activate Edge connection + i have activated Airtel Gprs but then also the problem persists….Plzzz try to help meItzz very imp for me to activate Airtel Gprs for my Iphone……..I am asking u bcoz i saw that how u helped all others so I am asking for this important help from you………..Reply from PrasanthI think your problem is that you only activated wap service and not gprs. I think its called mobile office. I heard that some others also had similar problems. And once they asked the mobile office to be activated it started working.wap only works for mobile site, gprs will let you access regular internet. iphone needs gprs.Just put your sim in other phones and try and see if its working there. If thats the problem then only the iphone settings are the problem. As far as i know airtel only need one settings which is the APN.And it is Airtelgprs.com as the APN and it should work. So check thosethings.if you are prepaid look into how much minimum balance you should have etc.Hope these tips will help, since there are so many things that could go wrong i havesuggested all the things i could think of. So look into all of them and hopefully it willwork for you. Its more than worth the effort.thank youprasanthhttp://www.prasanthtechblog.com

Always restart your iphone by switching it off and turning it back on when entering new settings.2. On airtel there is an opiton where wap is activated so make sure gprs is also activated3. Check if gprs is working in your area, Sometimes it could be down and will take a week orso to get fixed. So check with other users.4. Put your sim in other phones and check if gprs is activated or not5. The settings you have are the only settings needed. There is a small button for data roaming turn it on and off and try.Once you do all these you should have the iphone working, if not take it to the dealer where you bought it.thank youprasanthhttp://www.prasanthtechblog.com

Try and look into some these.Do you both live in the same are. If no that could be the reason because not all the areas in the city are the same. Some might have less users, some many. If many people use it the speeds will go down.Did you try at the same time of the day that could also be the reason. Also these speeds could when downloading something and not just browsing. you too could get those speeds by using some downloader program when downloading stuff. Try flashget which is free and quite good.So look into all these one of the could be the reason. Also try and change the dns in the connetions settings to open dns do a search on this blog about dns to get those details.thank youprasanthhttp://www.prasanthtechblog.com

Dr Prashanth,I am new here. Presently using Idea gprs Rs.9 per day plan. Will obtain BSNL WLL soon, Rs.250 per month. How will be the comparison, on speed and performance?Reply from PrasanthBy the way its only 200 Rs for GPRS but you will end up paying around 450 Rs because you also have to choose a voice plan with it. Since its a postpaid connection you will not be able to use that 250 Rs. Just wanted to tell you before you go ahead. So think of it as 450 Rs for unlimited GPRS and what ever you talk on the phone as extra.About the speeds all of them provide same speed not that fast, but quite okay if you want to browse the internet.thank youprasanthhttp://www.prasanthtechblog.com

I hve nokia3230 with “IDEA GPRS” IN NEW DELHI, i m using inertnet via blutooth on pc i increased my brousing speed 115.2-921.6 kbps, by changing some setting properties. my downloading speed is around 5-15 KB/s with flashget, but here some confusions, my actual speed is 115.2kbps and its dn is apprx. same and i want to know if my brousing is increased then my dn speed why not increased.i have xp sp2 , oprea 9.27, firefox3, dap 8.7,and here i want to tell u that my pc is p3 1ghz . can system affect on speed?please help me if u have any idea for my problem.and i wnat some yours valuble tips to increase my internet speed as much as possible.thank you very muchAMARReply from PrasanthThe 115 kbps speed means you will only get around 15 kb. 115 is bits per second the companies use that number because it makes it look bigger. Even on 512 kbps broadband you will only get 60 kb speed. So using the internet through mobile will only get your that speed. When you run a speed test it shows you 115 – 900 kbps but that is actually only 10 – 20 kbps. Using browsers you can disable flash that will stop the ads from loading incresing you speeds a bit.But if you really want higher speeds going broadband is the only option. You computer is fine using internet .thank youprasanthhttp://www.prasanthtechblog.com

i am new here. currently having airtel broadband connection. plans to change to airtel usb modem connection.can you tell me which one is better?Reply from PrasanthUSB modem is quite slow when you compare it with broadband. USB modem will be useful, if you travel a lot. If you don’t travel with your Internet then broadband is the best option for speed.USB modem is half as fast as 256 Kbps broadband, it gives around 150 Kbps. Which is around 10 kb.Thank youPrasanth

PrasanthTell how much speed u get before changing dns setting. I am in tamilnadu. For gprs connection which handset is best. Or any kind of handset i buy. Reply me to me/email me.PrakashReply from PrasanthThis DNS trick only works with bsnl phones. Others have good DNS settings and some don’t even allow DNS change. DNS will increase your browsing speeds. I can’t give you exact speed numbers. But it will increase upto 2 to 3 Kbps more than what you get. The speed will increase hugely rather than showing connecting to site it just gets you the site. Makes the waiting times a lot smaller. You can also go back to what you have now so give it a try. If it makes an difference use the settings or go back to the old settings.Thank youPrasanth

Hello Prashant, I am having samsung G600. its airtel GPRS Enabled. By default the DNS is 0.0.0.0…Should I change these no. to those given by you to increase speed or are there any other no for this..please reply..Reply from PrasanthYou didn’t mentioned which carrier you are using. If its Airtel there is no advantage or it doesn’t work. If its bsnl you will definitely see a speed increase. There is no harm in trying so put the dns and if it doesn’t work or you don’t see a speed increase, just put it back to where it was.Thank you

Dear Prashant, I am using EDGE enabled SAMSUNG SGH-J210 model which is new one. It has bluetooth too. I am using BSNL postpaid rs.99 plan. I like to go for BSNL GPRS 199/- plan. I am totally confused about the term UNLIMITED of 199 plan. What does it mean exaactly? Can I DOWNLOAD unlimited and UPLOAD unlimited? OR shall I be charge for both upload and download in addiiton to Rs.199 .? And how to connect to my PC using bluetooth dongle (DUN)? Now i am able to connect through data cable.Reply from PrasanthAbout bsnl post paind 199 Rs plan it offers unlimited gprs. Which means you can download and upload as much as you want. From computer and even from mobile, but the speeds are only around 5-10 k so it will not be that fast. This only works when you are not roaming, when you are roaming you will have to pay the normal price of data usage. Bsnl charges 20 Rs per 1 mb so if you use more than 5 to 10 mb per month going unlimited would be a nice idea, but i read about your phone, can it install apps if so then get the opera browser which will make browsing so much easier. If you can’t install apps hope what ever browser comes with the phone is a good one. If you are using it to get online through computer then i think the it doesn’t matter.About bluetooth its not that reliable and most of these device only connect to computer through cable, and blue tooth can only be used for head sets.Thank you

hi prasanth i use postpaid bsnl gprs connection(unlimited 199/month plan) with nokia 5300 model to connect 2 internet via PC with USB my normal download n browsing speed is veryslow can u tell me how to increase the speed?*step wise plzReply From PrasanthUsing the gprs connection from a mobile to browse is slow. You can only get a maximum of 10 kbps.Which is very slow, I am guessing you are using Nokia pc suite to do this. That could help a bit, also try and disable all the programs that are on your pc that try to use internet to check for updates.Like virus scanners and other program. Almost all the programs use the internet now a days so try and open only the program you need.Thank you for taking time to comment

sir ,iam using nokia 2700 classic handset and aircel pi is very slow on my pc (via cable)give suggestions to speedup my internetReply From PrasanthThere is no easy way to increase your speed. The best you can get with this method is the speed of a dial up connection at best of times. You could buy a costlier mobile with latest gprs specs like gprs class 10 etc. But it would be cheaper to buy a usb wireless modem that many providers are offering now. And they also have cheap plans for unlimited bandwidth. Those are much better options than this method.Thank you for taking time to comment

HiI am using Videocon GPRS in my compaq presiorio laptop but it’s speed is very low. anyone has any trick to icnrease the internate speed?Reply from PrasanthThe above dns trick could help, but if you really want higher speeds get a usb modem. They offer pretty good speeds at 50 kbps

Hi! prasant. how can i increase my aircel pocket internet speed on pc. my current download speed is 4-5 kb. my mobile is sony ericsson k510i.Reply from PrasanthI recently tried using a bsnl 3g usb modem with aircel sim and i got good speeds. Websites were loading fast, video was still slow.It could be used to check mail and browse the net quite fast.May be you should try this. By using phone to tether you are using the slow processor in the phone so usb modem would help.you could get 15 kb or so don’t expect broad band speeds for that get 3G data cards.prasanth

    sir,
I use nokia 6600 and download operamini software but its setting which was based on socket is changed into http. now how i can get back to socket.
    Please personaly tell me.
    thank you.

    • prasanth says:

since it a nokia old phone you can get the settings from your operator. you can find these settings on your network providers site.

if you don’t know how to, tell me which sim you are using and i will tell you how to get the settings for your network.

Operamini automatically detects the settings so once you get the correct settings it should work.

    sir,
i have nokia 6600 with opera mini software but its spead is very slow now a day and setting of opera mini is automatically convert to http from socket now i can unable to rechange what i do please help me.

    • prasanth says:

Even if you change the socket settings it will not help because every site you browse on opera mini comes from opera servers where its optimized for speed. So changing the dns will not help.

    Hi Prasanth,

I am using Acer liquid A1 phone and tether it to my laptop. however the speed is dead slow.

Could you please help me with the settings?

    Regards,
    Vinay

    • prasanth says:

It depends on how you are tethering the phone, if you are using bluetooth it will be slow. Its faster if you use wifi or wired tether.

Also you will only get dial up speeds with a 2G sim, even after using 3G if you are getting slow speeds.

The above mentioned dns tip is the only one i can think of

hai prashant, could plz tell how to increge the net speed for my mobile my mobile model is nokia 7610 and i tried almost all network connects i.e. reliance, docomo, aircel etc but some how i could not get the proper result for the speed mostely when i connected to my pc so plz help to find some good solution to solve this problem. regards ravi.

    • prasanth says:

That’s an old mobile you can’t get much speed with that.

Its better to go with a data card to get good speeds.

If you can get a 3G data card go with that. Look into bsnl landline broadband they are very cheap now.

Its hard to get higher speeds with nokia 7610 because it only works with 2G sim. You can get 20 kbps and it takes 10 hours for 100 MB.

prasanth iam using bsnl 3g modem 2g sim. speed up to 20kbps plz how to increase speed……………..

    • prasanth says:

You can’t get more than what you are getting on a 2G sim.

No trick will help because that is the maximum you will get with a 2G sim.

You use a 2G sim for slow but cheap internet. You can get internet for 98 Rs per month but slow at 20 kbps speed.

    • prasanth says:

I am guessing you are using a sony ericsson phone as modem.

This method is always slower than dedicated data card.

Changing the dns is the only thing that can help. Also try and use usb don’t use bluetooth to connect.

    hi…prasant!
i have a modem reliance net connect 3G 7.2 mbps and i’m using 2G gprs. My data download rate showing 60 kbps/sec but normally it is working on only 3 kbps/sec and my modem working very slow. Its time to take to open even a homepage of any browser.

    • prasanth says:

If you data download is showing 60 kbps and you can’t even load web pages.

There could be viruses on your system also disable all the apps and only use browser then you will get good speeds.

make sure no updates are being done, if you have antivirus they will do update in the background which will slow you down.
