Here is why apple is sending take down notices to iphone skins

I have a pocket PC with windows mobile 5 and I have put the so called iphone skins on my pocket PC. You need two programs called WisBar Advance Desktop and WisBar Advance before you put the skin which can be found here.

Once you install those program you can download the iphone skin for pocket PC here.

Here is why apple is sending take down notices, because this is not just skin. All the things you see in the skin work like iphone. For example the time is actual clock not just a photo. You see the slide to unlock even that works. Rather than sliding you just tap on that area to allow a pop up bar to come in its place with icons.

You see the small round circles at the edge of the icons and Steve bragged how they would be able to show you the missed call or new messages. They too work like an iphone those numbers change as you get calls and messages.

Even the ipod icon works and opens windows media player.

This skin can be modified as you want which I think apple iphone cannot be done. You can change any icon and assign it to any app.

This skin does something’s even better, When you click on the phone app its pops up a small bar on top that you can put photos on and provide phone numbers. From now on just hit the photos with your hand or stylus to call that particular person.

Once you install it and see how better than iphone the UI looks you will know why apple sent take down notices. When you can do what an iphone can do for just half the price of an iphone, they have to be scared.

God help God’s own country

I was thinking what if your friend from a foreign country asks you about where in India should he come and settle. What would your answer be, mine read along.

South India has water problems, north india has terrorist problem, and in the middle they are fighting each other.

South india some one predicted that people would fight for drinking water pretty soon. If mother nature gives south india another hot summer this year expect the wars to begin. Unless someone figures out a easy way for all the four states to share water, we are in for a big water war.

In the middle of the india all the major cities, are so burdened with traffic and pollution that I think even God can’t help us there.

North india just Kashmir is enough to ruin that part of india, its beautiful and all but how much more blood is needed to protect it and keep it. I am not even going to try to explain the problems in Assam, etc.

Let me put some of the states into categories.

Pollution : Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkatta even some smaller cities etc. Stand at any road in one of these cities for half hour and check the insides of your nose for the pollution’s effect. It would have turned black.

Terrorism: Bihar, Assam, Kashmir. Now even big cities are becoming victims of terrorism. After 9/11 i think no is safe any where. But comparing to other countries Indian police has been better to deal with terrorism.

Violence: Gujarat and where ever two religious communities have big presence. I am afraid of watching news channels because you never know when the new riot starts.

i think the best way to live in india is to keep migrating that way you don’t feel the effects of the place on you. By the time you feel the effects you will be moving on.

So stay in south in winter and move on upwards as the seasons progress.

rediff has started putting videos in stories

I think its a good idea but the video quality is kind of crap. But it will be interesting to see what they will use this for.

The first video is about Amitab bhachan getting a rolls Royce car from a director for acting well in his film, which sounds like whole lot of crap and more like and very super advertising move by rolls Royce. They would be killing themselves if they saw the video quality all that work for nothing.

The picture you see is from the video, I would have preferred a smaller video this size with better quality. Rather than a bigger one with crappy quality.

Sony PS3 makes money only if you buy 20 games and Accessories

Here is the deal we all know that Sony’s new console PS3 is making a loss of $200 on every console its selling. You might say every console is loss making product, but the difference is, Sony is losing as much money as other consoles would cost. So that’s hard to make up. Here is how I came to the above conclusion of 20 games and accessories.

A PS3 games cost $60 and if we can imagine a profit of 15% on every games which is a bit high percentage wise, still Sony only makes about $9 every game you buy. So it would take 20 games and few accessories for sony to just get even on the console they sold you. So it will only make profit after you buy the 21st game.

In my experience 20 would be the actual number of games i would buy for a console. I have a PS2 and i have around 17 games so far. How many games do you think you will buy.

You might say they will get all the money on the games they make but here is the thing, for the games they make they have to spend on advertising, paying for the actually making process etc. So even on the games they make i think they will not make more money than $25 or more.

Then how about blue ray movies, since they are making them too it will be similar to the games they make after advertising and other expenses. Not many movies are shot in high def so they need to make new movies and only then they can sell them.

You can adjust the number of games according to the percentage they make on each game.

if they make 15% its will be 22 games, if its 20% its 16 games and if its 25% it will be 13 games.

So remember that’s how many games you have to buy if you have a PS3 for sony to make even not profit.

Don’t write to me saying it will make more in years to come, if you read the stories days back before the PS3 sony borrowed all this money from banks and as years go past the interest on the money will also get more and more. So it will not help if they make more by then or if the lose less money on each console.

That’s why Microsoft is in such a good position they have a huge cash reserve and in consoles its always throw the money first and get the money in return later. Which microsoft could do well years to come.

Unless you decide to buy 30 games for your PS3.

Things you need to know about Dopod 818pro

Here is something you should know if you have this device or in general, don’t go by the manual. i had a problem with my device so i had to hard reset the device which is like formatting and starting new in windows.

I followed the instructions in the manual and it was not working so i went and searhed on the net and found that someone else also had same problem so he contact the tech guys they to told him the same thing in the manual but after that he went to a technician and found the real way to hard reset. When i tried it, it worked perfectly and now pocket pc running perfectly. This was the only glitch other than that i am one happy geek here.

Do this to Hard Reset your Dopod 818pro

1. Press POWER button to off unit (if unit is ON)
2. Press CAMERA and COMM buttons simultaneously
3. While holding down CAMERA and COMM buttons, use stylus to poke the RESET button at bottom of unit.
4. Release pressing of the RESET button, and continue to hold on to CAMERA and COMM buttons until message appear on the screen asking you to press the SEND (green phone button) to continue.

If only the manual provides proper and careful instruction, it would have saved many of us wasted time!! Quite disappointed with Dopod support in this aspect; long wait for their tech support line, plus incorrect guided instructions!! I wonder how they would handle more serious problems than this?

My New Geeky Phone, Start drooling please

Yes few days back I bought myself a PDA its a dopod 818pro Pocket PC which has some cool features at a great price of 25000 Rs, it has

2 megapixel camera, wifi, Microsoft windows mobile 5

All this for the price of 25000 Rs. That’s a steel when you consider the price you pay for the same feature on  a O2 is atleast 10000 Rs more.

I have been using it for a week or so now and it has replaced my mp3 player and mobile and video player. This pocket PC phone is really cool, i can watch movie clips, listen to mp3 the speaker are not that good but the earphone are really amazing and the sound through them is better than anything i have heard so far. The battery is also good for a day of listening to podcast’s for three to four hours and a few videos and one or two phone calls and some net browsing’s and notes.

The device is nice and small that it fits well in your hand and the screen and stylus are great. the earphone as i said before and really nice. It sync well with your pc for contacts, notes and task and calendar, it comes with a outlook cd so you can install that and manage this stuff on pc. I have also set it up in a way that it even syncs with my itunes more on that later.

The operating system its windows mobile 5 which is nice and easy to use, it can multi task unlike the palm OS which i have also used. My only complaints are that its really hard to install program and remove programs on the device. You can install but when you remove them they are not removed completely. The other problem is closing programs even when you hit the X on top of the window programs don’t close they could have given an option where when you click on x it closes app’s, there are other program that provide this option but it should have been in the OS. More or how to get most out of your pocket pc later.

Wifi i have not tired it yet

Camera is really nice it use the full screen as a view finder and the photos are not bad, there is no flash but that fine upclose photos are more than okay

Video i saw video full screen with headphone for an hour and it only took 20% of the battery which means i can watch up to five hours of video before recharge. And the video is also very good looking.

Gprs is slow but that has to do with the lousy bsnl network, Its as slow as using it on a dial up.

If you have this kind of money this is a really cool pocket pc to buy. You need a computer to really use this device well. So don’t think of it as a replacement for laptop which its not. Think of it as a device that can do video. play mp3 and browse the web and a phone with camera. You can do all this on a very big screen that is hard to find on a mobile.

Vista launch in India, our media finds Chess game exciting.

Vista is here and will you be upgrading. At least I am not, all the news and reviews that i have heard is that its hard to upgrade or you will not get much with the system you have etc. So i will upgrade when i buy a new laptop with vista installed. Even if you have the latest hardware on your PC VISTA will not perform well unless you have a very good gaming rig. Even then some feature will not work, so the easiest option is to buy a new PC rather than upgrade. Indian media doesn’t get technology if you don’t believe me then watch this screen grab from the TV of headlines today’s coverage of vista launch in india. Yes vista has chess with real 3d pieces. That is pathetic, there are so many better things to report about the operating system. Just black look is enough for me to upgrade.

Have anyone noticed this, Vista is going more and more towards black and apple is going more and more towards white.

Poruki Tamil Movie review

You will enjoy this movie if you leave your brain outside the theatre. It really is a fun and entertaining film. I went with my family which was really a bad idea. Some of the things in the movie you really don’t want to watch with your family beside you. Still it was fun I was whistling and shouting and cheering. There is nothing to take away from the movie other the fun part, may be sometimes that’s what you need. The biggest cheer in the theater was not for the hero Vijay but for Prakash Raj who plays a likeable bad guy in the movie. There are some super scenes with prakash raj acting as he always does only him no hero around that tells something about his stature in the Tamil film industry. The comedy is also fun to watch, you have to give some credit to the comedian for putting up with all that. All in a fun movie to watch with your friends.

Oh if you still want to know the story its about a rowdy and how is trying to change the city, I am not giving out the details because its not that fun if you know everything.

The heroine Hassin has really gone over board with vulgarity in this, just watch the first scene and you will know what I am talking about, or the scene about learning to whistle etc.

Go watch it for some nice comedy and some nice acting and some entertainment.
