Its technically not a new firmware because there are no enhancements. But it change the look of the player. You get a new user interface like the iphone style. You get a new opening and closing animation etc.
See the picture to see what the new interface looks like.
Warning it will only work on the player that look similar to the one in the picture.
For others who want to change their mp4 player firmware here is are some software you will need.
Download S1fwx to extract your firmware on to your computer
its a dos program just extract it and click extract.bat and let it run and when asked give the driver letter of your mp4 player. and it will download a file called dump.bin which is your mp4 players firmware.
It should take like 30 seconds or so.
Download S1res to edit your firmware
Once you download the firmware you can open the file in this program and edit the firmware by adding your own pictures or text etc.
Then using the mp3 player utilities upgrade tool update the player firmware.
The upgrade takes only 30 seconds or so. Be sure not to update the wrong firmware. Good luck

about the firmare it only works for the player that looks like the one in the picture. it doesn’t add any features other than change the theme of the player.you problem is caused because you player is not formatted once you format the player it will its true size which should around 1 gb or so. Not 8gb as it shows on the computer. That is a small cheat these chinese players use to sell the device.But after you format you 1gb player will work fine without any errors.good luck.

The video should be converted into .amv format.you would have got a cd with the player that has the softwareor you can search online and you will find a .amv converter.Once converted just copy it on to the player directly.It should work.Also format your player to the correct size some times thatcould also be a problem,when someone does a player that is half the size and the price of what everyone thinks is the best mp3 player in the world (ipods) these chinese players too need some fanboys don’t they.

Hey man now its working….now the problem is the video is playing upside dowm.. funny thing.. i have to turn the player and watch the video….also the music files are not getting playd in order. when i try to skip one file, it goes to anyfile in the list not to the very next one.. any solution for that???
There is no way to rotate the video on the player.You have to do it while encoding check the options there.See in them menu option if you have shuffle selected. Ifso then go and select normal and it should work fine andshould go to the next song.good luck

I bought this thing yesterday, an mp4 4GB a/v player with fm, etc.etc… I checked the default files, and they obviously worked. However,when I put my own mp3s up on it, it says that it can’t find them. therecord folder is also corrupted. when you put files in the ROOT folder, canthey be in a folder? or do they have to be free and nilly willy?The point of all this is that none of my mp3′s work, and i doubt anyamv will work either.Reply from Prasanth These are called fake chinese players for a reason. The memory in them isfake. So if you format the player you will get the actuall memory which couldbe around 512 mb or less.Once you format the player to its real size, and put mp3 files on the playerit will work nicely from then on.the problems you are facing are because of the fake memory.Good luck.
Thank you for that info. It does seem to be about 1GB though, thankfully. Because it said about 99% at the 1 GB mark and was steadily going up that far. But I’ll check.When I used the util tool that came on the mini-rom disc, it didn’t work to format. Do you have a page that has instructions, or have it cached? The one further up has no images. They were disabled.Also, there are a bunch of files that I loaded onto the player, I noticed, that were transformed into chinese characters for the file name and type, that look like folders. I should get a screen and post the imageshack or something, but I have to go. I’ll post back later.Do you also have an archive of a thread that addresses this? If so, you should possibly make it accessible. Personally. If this thing works, I think it’s awesome. FM player and MP3 player that is that light? PLEASE! Way better than the heavy iPods.

I got it formatted and it works!Okay… Now my next problem, it’s only recognizing 17.7 MB from an original 2 GB. Is there a way I can fix this? forget it, I found out how to do it without the pictures using testdisk utility, then formatting with the disk tool with the mini-rom. Try changing the charger or atleastcheck the charger to see if its charging the player. Sometimes the usb charging wirewill go bad so it could be that. I have a problem with chinese mp4 player. I am able to downlaod songs however only the firts 20m will play. After that I receive message on screen indicating format error. It was only 230 as you wrote. There is a software hack that makes it look like its 4gb but once you format the player the real size comes back. Like it did in your case.The one best thing about what you have now is it will work perfectly from now on. all the files will play. if you want to put more songs encode them at 8k which will bring the size of the mp4 to 500 kb each that way you can still put 200 songs on the player.if you don’t know how to encode then just got to http://www.bollyfm.net/bollyfm/soundtracks.html and download music from there. Hi! PrasanthMy friend bought a look i like ipod nano with firmware version TJD_1322_20 2007-09-27 9.1.52 2005-01-09. When he tried to connect it to his Vista pc, he could not find the drive and the pc wouldnt even pop up that there’s a new hardware. Even when the device shuts down saying no battery it will switch on few more times. So drain it completely by turning on the device until it can’t anymore, draining the battery completely it resets. Sometimes you could brick your mp4 player. So do it if have the right firmware and have the know how.Some times draining the batter completly to the point where it will not even turn on when the switch is turned on could fix the problem. How many drives does it show whenconnected to computer. If it shows two drives then its fake memory. Try formattingusing the methods mentioned on the blog. The player might say it has copied all the files.but you will get error when you play some files. To test this copy a big file of more than1 gb or something and see if you get any errors. If not then copy the file back again fromthe mp4 player to the computer and see. Then you will get errors. Its just faking the copyingthing.The 9.1.52 is just version number and not v9. The latest device could be using a different format of firmware because they are supporting much higher capacity.The s1fwx software on the website http://s1mp3.de/tools.s1fwx.html is at 3.3 versiondownload the lastest version and give it a try. So infact what you are doing is a firmware edit. So you will have to flash the player with a new firmware to get the theme on to the player.The problem with your player could be that it has a differnt chipset. The s1res program only works with the some mp4 players. GOD BLESS YOUReply from PrasanthUsually formatting from the player menu is safe.If there are any option that you can put while formatting please try those and see if that helps.In most case the usb cable might be damaged if you can find another one also try and bend the usb cable where it connects to the player and the computer and see if that helps. Some times is could be just bad usb cable that has stopped working.Usb cable that come with these players are always bad.If your cable is working right you computer should detect something when you connect the player. And then ask for drivers. Mine will only change the theme on the player. So if you have any new feauters they will be lost.As mentioned in the blog first back up your firmware and if you can do that. Go ahead and use this firmware. Hi, I have a mp3/mp4 player and when I copy songs into it on my laptop I can’t play them in the player later. I have Apple ipod brougth from Thailand. I do not know whether it is original or not. It is giving problem when connected to PC. Shows green battery icon only and not recognised by PC. Hello Prasanth,3/4 days back I bought JXD 661 PMP. Since purchase, me and my daughter took several still pictures and Dv clips alongwith few audio recordings. Today I thought of preserving these pictures in my computer and load some songs into the player.Here I am stuck. The computer detects the player as new hardware found and asks for driver, but windows98 is not accepting the driver files in the CD which I received alongwith the player. I tried copying the files from CD to computer but no result. In device manager yellow ? mark is shown and in the PMP Player USB connection picture is shown.Can you please suggest how to connect the PMP with my computer so that I can get print-outs of the pictures and load some songs for my little daughter.Me and my little daughter both are eagerly waiting for a solution from you.THANKS AND BEST REGARDSDebdas Dutta and Madhulika DuttaReply from PrasanthSince the players are notorious with drivers you have to select the particular file in order for the driver to install. just by pointing at the cd it will not detect the drivers. Go into the cd and look for the driver and point to that file when windows asks for drivers.Once you find the right file its quite easy to install drivers. I can’t help you much from here. Have someone who is good with computers have a look at it. This is the problem with all the chinese players.Also if you have windows xp machine try and connect the device to that computer. Most of the time it will not ask for a driver and will show up as a removable drive.Since i don’t have the player i can only suggest things to try out. Look for a usb option on the device. On most of these devices you need to select that for the player to show up on the computer.About getting the photos printed the quality of the photos that your pmp takes might be very low for a good print photo.Good luck hope it works out for youthank you
Hello Prasanth,Thanks for your reply. This morning through afternoon I had consulted few persons who are proffessionals in computer field. But no luck.What they say Windows also say the same thing, and ‘am back again taking the liberty to disturb you.There are total 3 *.inf files in the driver CD. Windows by default selects the first file when pointed to the Drivers Directory in the CD. But rejects same stating required file not found. ‘Have tried all the three files.The player does not have any USB option. The USB connection shows the moment it is connected to the PC and all other functions seize to work till connection is released.Is there any other way ? or the player is deffective ?Thanks and best regardsDebdas dutta
Hello Prasant,I am pleased to inform you, this morning tried the PMP in my freinds computer whose OS is XP, and with a light of joy it immediately showed up in My Compter as removable drive. My heartiest thanks for your tiny little clue.The sad part is that I could not establish freindship between my computer and the PMP. Hi PrasanthSomedays back I got my second MP4 (nano look a like) player from China through one of my friend and previous one worked very well and also had 8GB memory and I was able to play all my video,songs and photos on it. This one also is working fine but only till 7 some songs and I have formatted it almost 20+ times using GUI based command as well as DOS command.In DOS mode it showed 8137 MB of space.When I tried formatting it with FAT format it gave error that FAT 16/12 does not support as volume is large.then I formatted it with FAT32 and it got formatted fine.When connected to notebookit is showing 2 drives with 7.99 GB and other very small capacity.I also loaded it with 6 GB of data and when retrieved it on my notebook, data remained same and also all files were working fine in my notebook.If I load an AMV file with 400MB + size and play the file in player the file is running perfectly .But problem comes when I load some more files with,it will play first AMV file but then for other file it will show 00:00:00 and gives format error.Also for songs it will play first 7 songs and then it will restart again automatically.Could u plz tell me whether this has got Memory size of 8GB or less and if I connect it to my notebook again and try playing the songs then only first 7 songs are working and other songs are not working on my notebook and message says that they are corrupted and they appear ‘n’ number of times I connect it to my notebook .Could u help me in finding the issue with this player.I don’t mind using this as a storage device cz I got this for the price less than 8GB USB drive.Thanks in advance.best regardsAmitReply from PrasanthThe fact that two disk show up on your computer is the proof that the fake memory still exists.the players memory could be somewhere around 512 mb or so that is why your 400 mb file and other songs are playing.to test it put only few songs and see if it can play more than 7 songs. Put like 30 to 40 songs. if it can then the problem is with the fake memory.if it can’t then the firmware has some issues.you seems to have done everything you can to format the player. these players are getting more and more clever and it seems harder to get them formatted correctly.I recently just gave up formatting a player and went ahead and bought a Philips SA 3025 2GB original which can play videos, pictures and fm radio. It even can record songs from fm radio and had an inbuilt battery that is very good. And it cost me 3000 Rs with 1 year warranty.I think this is the better way to go than mess with these 1500 Rs players that work half the time, and half the time you spend dealing with the problems.sorry couldn’t help you muchthank you
