Its one extreme to another

Today I read two articles one from BBC and one from NYT.

It’s Good to Be Immortal. One was about Tiger Woods and how he has become a good role model and a legend in his sport.

Tiger Woods is such a good example of why kids should honor their parents, work hard and eat broccoli.

The secret of Vanuatu’s happiness and one was about a small island called Vanuatu which has been voted the happiest place on earth. 

“The simple things in life, it seems, really do make you happy.”

Both of these stories can’t be anymore extreme. But have some very nice message and are interesting read on this beautiful Sunday.

Windows 7 looks like more trouble than vista

Not trying to be controversial. I love my vista very much. But after seeing everyone else complain about vista.

I can’t think how windows 7 will be taken in a positive way. They should have tried to make less complicated and simple. Not more complicated and more UI’s.

The next version of windows 7 could have so many different shells that it even boggles my mind to think of having to deal with all those.

Choice is good but too much choice is always bad.

This will also screw up the look and feel of the UI among programs.

The worst part is the touch implementation. It could go so horrible wrong. This thing will not be standardized. Just like the windows UI which seem to be all over the place similarly the touch could also go all over the place with each software maker using their own touch commands making it even more complicated.

I can only imagine how the virus writers are drooling over the touch commands to do more damage. Clicking could have been hard but asking people to touch a beautiful girl or a currency note would make it even worse for normal people to resist and allow them to get easily infected.

While apple is going the simpler way, Microsoft is trying to make it as complicated as possible for people to like its operating system.

Movies you should watch this summer 

Hellboy 2 the Golden Army :  After the first Hell Boy movie which left us stunned, here comes the second movie much bigger and more spectacular. Check out the trailer here

Release Date : July 11th

The Dark Knight :  Batman movie, in which joker (Heath Ledger) seem to be amazing. Check out the trailer here

Righteous Kill : After Heat this could be the second movie when these two legends Robert De Niro and Al Pacino are working together again. It will be one heck of a movie. This time both of them are cops. Check out the trailer here

Hancock : Will Smith leads in this new super hero movie. Its a different take on a super hero. Check out the trailer here

Release Date : June 2nd

The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor :  This will be the third movie for the mummy series, this time Jet Li also joins in the action with Brendan Fraser so it will be interesting. Rather than Egypt this time its seems to be about China and its ancient history. Check out the trailer here

You Don’t Mess With the Zohan : Adam Sandler is an Israeli super agent who wants to become an hair stylist. This will be fun. Check out the trailer here

The Happening : This is M. Night Shyamalan 8th movie. I have not seen any of his movies completely. But this seems very interesting. And I want to watch it. Check out the trailer here

Mongol : Story about Genghis Kahn the greatest ruler ever. I am hoping it will be good. And will not make me regret seeing another of the great rulers be humiliated like Alexander was in the movie Alexander by Collin Farrell. Check out the trailer here

Sex and the City : I loved the TV series when it was on TV and really looking forward to the movie version. My favorite of the four is Charlotte played by Kristin Davis. I just love her. Check out the trailer here

Which set top box to get in India

Every other company seem to be putting a set top box out there so which one should you get. Here are the options available in the market. You decide.

Hathway Set top box

Channels - 100 or so

Price – 500 Rs

Monthly Fee - It depends on the channels you want. You have to choose a minimum of 20 channels. Each channel costs 6 Rs.

Advantages - You will get all the channels. You don’t have to put up a dish. Just plug in the set top box into your existing cable provider.

Disadvantages -  You cable provider has to support this set top box and also provide the box himself.

 

images Doordarshan

Channels - 50 or so

Price – 1000 Rs

Monthly Fee - No Charges its free

Advantages - You will get all the channels from Doordarshan

Disadvantages - No pay channels will work.

Channels - 100 or so

Price - 1000 Rs

Monthly Fee – 100 Rs

Advantages - You will get all the channels from Sun Network

Disadvantages - No jaya TV or any other English channels or sports channels.

 

images-2 Zee Dish TV

Channels - 200 or so

Price - 4000 Rs

Monthly Fee – 300 Rs

Advantages - You will get all the channels and some extra stuff like movie on demand etc for which you have to pay extra.

Disadvantages - Monthly prices are high if you want all the channels.

Channels - 200 or so

Price - 4000 Rs

Monthly Fee – 300 Rs

Advantages - You will get all the channels and some extra stuff like movie on demand etc for which you have to pay extra.

Disadvantages - Monthly prices are high if you want all the channels.

I personally own Zee’s Dish TV and the Hathway Box.  Which work quite well.
