Iphone 3G mobile plans in India
Getting iphone is important for its Internet features. So lets look at what plans these mobile companies are offering.
Both vodafone and Airtel the official partners for iphone don’t have unlimited data plans for iphone.
Take a look at Vodafone mobile plans which are specific for iphone. None of them provide unlimited data.
About 3G here is what they are saying about it
Select features and services are currently available in India. 3G features can be used on 3G networks while roaming aroad.
Above text was taken from Vodafone site and the spelling mistake was in the site. Seriously that is your answer to 3G service. Use it when you are roaming abroad.
Airtel is not advertising the iphone on its site where as Vodafone has a big banner on the main page.
I really would like to know how many people would by an iphone at twice the price of that in USA and half the features. And also how many would pay more for going over the limited data usage plan.
My suggestion is to get an jail broken iphone in black market for 15000 Rs for the iphone 2G or 27000 Rs for the iphone 3G.
And getting an bsnl postpaid Plan 225 and you get unlimited data for 450 Rs. It would be cheaper than going with the official iphone partner in India.

Iphone 3G will cost 31000 Rs in India

Today I received a mail from vodafone saying that they will sell iphone on August 22nd. And it will cost 31000 Rs for 8 GB and 36000 for 16 GB.
They are asking customers to come today and tomorrow to pay a 10000 Rs deposit as advance if you want the iphone on the launch day. That’s first time in India any mobile company is asking you to put down a deposit.
At this price I really don’t recommend the iphone to anyone in India. Many of my friends were eagerly hoping for a below 10000 Rs price.
But at this high price you are better of buying it in blackmarket.
The official iphone from vodafone will cost you around 750 USD. Where as in USA they are selling it for 299 USD. That’s twice the USA price which is really lame because you can’t even use most of it’s features in India yet. Like 3G, GPS Maps (Google has bad maps of India so GPS will not work well).
So go buy a iphone 1.0 or 2G in black market. Which you can get for less than 30000 Rs.
I bought my iphone 1.0 more than 9 months back still loving it. I would have gone and bought an iphone 3G if the
Price was below 15000 Rs and 3G
Service was available.
Michael Phelps wins 8 gold medals in Olympics

Michael Phelps wins his 8th gold medal bettering the previous record of 7. The last race was 4×100 meters individual medley. With a team of world record breakers Michael Phelps wins his 8th.
He was the third swimmer and his team was in the second place to Japan when he took over. He swam an unbelievable race and put his team in front and hand it over to the last swimmer who finished the race in style under world record.
The competition was so stiff that even the silver medalist Australia were under the world record.
So Michael Phelps totally deserves his 8th gold medal.
What an athlete, we will not see someone like this again soon. So cherish it.
Just read this article about what Michael Phelps eats everyday.
He suggested Phelps, with an estimated 8% body fat, probably burns 1,000 calories per hour during his swimming training, compared to the equivalent exercise for an average person – vigorous walking – that would burn between 170 and 240 calories.
1 gold medal for 1 billion
Finally an Indian wins a gold medal in an individual event at Olympics. Abhinav Bindra who has promised good results for quite some time gets India its first Olympic individual gold.
It’s a good day and also a sad day because it also reminds us of our pathetic sports record. How can 1 billion people not have won an individual gold medal in any event at the Olympics so far.
Watch whole country go crazy on this just to put this perspective. An athlete from USA called Michael Phelps is targeting 8 gold medals at this Olympics.
I guess some one had to bring the first one and I congrats Abhinav for it hopefully many more to follow.
Come on Raj Varthan Singh Rathore another gold please.
DD Sports don’t ruin the Olympics for me
I knew DD sports coverage of this Olympics would be crappy. But they have taken that to the next level with this Olympics. Here is how they are making it crappy this time.
There is no schedule, they cut from one sport to the other without any timing. Just when you are getting interested in what they are showing they change it to something new.
They also cut sporting events to show interviews with Indian Olympic officials. While a football match between Argentina and Australia was going on, they cut to show an interview with the Indian Olympics official. Do you really need to listen him. What is going to tell? How bad the Indian team is performing.
There are no highlight show, no one has time to sit all day through their crappy coverage so why not show highlights of the days events every three hours or so.
And last but not the least their hosts, serious with so much happening do we even need hosts. May be one guy just to tell us what’s about to come. But no they have two host who don’t know which camera to look at repeating exactly what the commentator just said. That to for more than five minutes at a time. That would have been fine if they did that occasionally. They do this three to four times every hour.
And finally for some of the sports they have Indian commentators who you would have known for their lack of professionalism. They just keep repeating what is happening on the screen as if I wasn’t watching. And not adding anything more to the experience.
Why can’t Indians get a professionally run national channel. How long will we have to endure this, why are the other sports channels sitting and watching.
2008 Olympics begin today in Beijing, China
The opening ceremony will begin today at 5:30 PM Indian time. It will be broadcast live from National Stadium in Beijing.
I just bought a Samsung 40 inch flat screen TV to watch the Olympic games. Sadly there are no HDTV providers in India at the moment so I will have to do with tata sky.
The program will be aired on DD sports and DD national. Its sad none of the top sports channels like espn and star sports get to cover the Olympics in India and we will have to endure doordarshan’s crappy coverage.
Hopefully this years games will be exciting and India will be able to get more than one Gold medal.
It will also be interesting to see how many games will be interrupted by protesters from Tibet and Human Rights groups.
Sites you should check out for Olympics coverage.

Wired has links to sites that provide video of Olympics online

News head lines you thought you never hear
Past few days there have been reports of the trouble in Palestine between the two Factions that rule Palestine. Hamas which is ruling the majority of Palestine has been trying to put all the supports of Mohammed Abbas in prison. Many of this group have been started fleeing Gaza.
Guess who comes to their rescue, it’s their mortal enemy Israel.
So for the last few days the newspaper around the world have been seeing headlines like “Israel helps 180 Fatah members flee Gaza clashes“,”Israel Helps Fatah Activists Escape Hamas In Gaza” etc.
That’s something you never thought you would see.
Hope their friendship continues long after the fighting between the groups in Palestine stops.
They wanted Israel out of their land and now when Israel goes out they start fighting among themselves. I am not supporting anyone or judging anyone, isn’t it time for the people of region get some kind of peace and normal life.
Jack fruit chips Review
Very good in fact the best chips I have tasted of jack fruit. But very costly at 25 Rs per packet could have been cheaper.
3G in India by December 2008
Indian government announced it’s 3G policy for telecom industry. They expect the mobile operates to start the service by December this year. That is if the auction for the spectrum goes as planned and there is no government change in the mean time. This will be a big cash cow for the government which is expecting to earn around 40000 crores. So if something happens to the present government this auction could be the first thing that will be stopped. They need some sort of income to pay all the corrupt politicians for the next government.
If everything goes well by January we can expect the service to start. But expect to pay a premium for the first few months where ever the service is available.
Like 2G, don’t expect the 3G service to roll out to small towns at least after 3 to 6 months time.
Also save up because you will need a 3G capable phone to take advantage of this service.
Only most high end phones come with 3G, so save up all your money now. Because you will be paying quite a bit at least in first few months for the 3G service.
