Apple here is a suggestion for iOS 7

ios7idea

I like how iOS has apps on the home screen. But keeping them arranged is a pain.

So why not have a setting where you can arrange the icons by different rules.

1. Most used, where apps are arranged based in how many times they are opened. After a certain number of times app moves up in place.

2. Categories, arrange apps by category. When user selects this, apps are arranged category wise.

3. Last opened, where apps are arranged based on when they are opened.

4. Last day opened where apps opened previous day are given prominence.

This can be implemented system wide.

Or

if you don’t want to change too much.

Use the space below the search screen to show these apps. That space is left blank before you search. Putting these list apps there will make it quick and easy for users, to get to the apps they use more frequently quicker, without searching.

These are some of my ideas to change the app home screen without changing too much.

New users can use it how it’s now. Advance uses could change the settings to their liking.

Mobile phone wallpaper tip i use all the time

Here is a simple trick i use all the time.

Set any information you want see immediately as your wallpaper when you are outside your home.

This way you can just glance at your phone and get the information, without unlocking the phone etc.

You can also hand someone the phone to share the information without unlocking it.

This comes quite handy when you want to show your online ticket while travelling,

To show online movie ticket at theater.

Also looking at your shopping list when shopping, many more such uses.

Google reader was bound to fail, just too much

I have been using google reader on and off for a few years now. I know why the usage was down, and why stuff like google reader was never going to survive.

There is just too much news out there.

You might say there was always too much news out there. Let see how i used google reader.

I had about 30 feeds in my google reader. Everyday i had more than 1000 stories to read. No sooner i finished them more were coming in.

Here are some examples

Techmeme before you would only get about 10 stories a day. Now it crosses 200 Stories per day.

Before just reading engadget or gizmodo was fine. Now you have to add Verge into that list and all of them have tripled their stories per day. Each one publishes nearly 100 stories per day.

Even if i just hit mark all as read next day there will be 1000 more stories. Unlike regular webpages, Google reader remember every story until you read it.

This is the reason why people were using less and less of google reader and why flipboard and other apps have become popular.

Flipboard if you miss one day, new stories are ready next day. You don’t have to worry about old stories. But in google reader they will be waiting for you to read and clean, which is one more chore people had to do every day.

This is why facebook and twitter are also popular. You can hop on when you want to read few stories and just ignore when you don’t want. There is no unread tweets section etc.

With so much information out there google reader was bound to fail.

Now that google reader is going away i will just stick to few sites and read them on the web. No more feeling guilty of not reading..

Apple is in an amazing battle

apple

Apple is such a tough company to fight against. Take a look at some of these stats. These were the number of Phone models released by all these companies in 2012.

Apple – 1 model
Samsung – 37 models
LG – 24 models
HTC Corp – 18 models
Nokia – 9 models

How do you compete against a phone maker who just puts one device out while you have to do so many models even to compete.

Even with so many models Apple takes nearly 75% of the mobile phone profits home. To get the remaining mobile phone profits, Samsung is spending nearly 12 billion dollars on advertising alone. That’s 10 times more than apples advertising budget.

So just sit an enjoy this amazing battle of an amazing company called Apple.

Chinese father hires game assassins to kill son

I guess this type of parenting is necessary in this technology and gaming obsessed world. Thinks its cool that the dad found a unique way to deal with his sons gaming addiction.

Hats off to dad and also to the son too who figured it out

The 23-year-old man, identified as Xaio Feng, noticed that he was frequently targeted in an online game by players who were more skilled than him.

Suspecting that something was wrong, he talked to the players, who said they had been paid to ‘kill’ him.

The boy said his father had apparently decided on the plan after his son left a job at a software development company just after three months, the Telegraph reports.
