World’s 1st 10000 crores house called Antilla

I am really happy that someone like Mukesh Ambani has built a house that costs 10000 crores. It is being opened on October 28th, when our politicians live in such luxuary why not the richest indian who has more than earned it.It will provide jobs to many, it will need 600 employes to run this house. Thats provides much need jobs to many. This will also be an inspiration to every indian entrepreneur. What is the point of wealth if you can enjoy it.Some figures about the house1. 27-stored building is 570 feet high6 floors of parking for 160 cars3 heli pads1 mini-theatre for 504 floors will be occupied for the Ambani’s which is 4 lakh square feet. They are just some stunning figures…Wouldn’t it be cool if Ambani’s invite 100 citizens from all over India randomly to the opening. Can i get one please..All i can say is great some one has built the ultimate House ever and its in India, we all should be proud. Don’t comment saying it waste of money when so much poverty exsits in India etc.We are the same people who watch 100 crore movies and just recently hosted Rs 30000 crore common wealth games in delhi etc. Think about those before you comment. This at least could inspire many to come out of poverty, what did those movie and games do other than make a few people rich.

Don’t buy tata photon pocket wifi now

Tata photon are offering a new device that they are calling tata photon pocket wifi. Which is a router with a sim that gives your broadband speeds. This device is priced at 4999 Rs.What is the main feature of this device. This device acts a wifi hotspot and allows you to connect 5 different devices to internet. Why i am asking you to not buy this device now. They data plans are shit compared to BSNL 3G plans. Tata photon are offering the same plans they offered for Tata Photon Plus. So if that data wasn’t enough for you, now you can share the same connection with five more devices.Even their hardware is crap, the main selling point of this device is portability, so you would guess a router could at least last as long as the laptop battery lasts.

Has an in-built battery for a 2.5 Hrs operation

So if you are in the market for something like this a wifi router that is portable with an internet connection that you can carry. I have two solutions for you.1. Get a portable router that powers via usb, they are available for 3000 Rs. Get a BSNL 3G usb modem and hock that into the router and you have the same thing that is cheaper and lasts as long as the laptop battery. Bsnl have good data plans and especially an unlimited plan.

2. If you have a 3G usb data card like BSNL 3G or any others. You can share that connection via computer to other devices. Here is how i do it.I connect the BSNL 3G usb data card to my mac and turn on internet sharing in settings menu  -> sharing -> internet sharing. And now using the mac’s wifi i can connect any device that has wifi to internet. I know there are ways to do the same on windows too.So don’t buy the tata photon pocket wifi, wait till they come out with a good battery like (10 hours or more) and an unlimited plan like BSNL 3G.

Wipeout India’s poverty 1% at a time

After reading this tweet from Javed Akthar i had this brilliant idea.

@Javedakhtarjadu: 40% Indians are bellow poverty line.35%  some how manage two square meals.15% are having a party .is it fine by you?

Why are the less fortunate being neglected by fortunate people ?Are Indians not generous? no we are generous people. So why are we allowing so many people to suffer like this. The answer i think is many want to help and don’t know how. If they do know how, they don’t trust the process and think its corrupted. So how can we change this situation ?Most of the charities take quite a lot of effort on the individuals part to contribute. It has to be seamless and people shouldn’t even see the process. So how can we make this seamless, that’s were modern technology and branding come into effect.Have you seen the vegetarian logo on food items, the green square with a green circle inside. Make a charity symbol that looks something like that. Make a logo for it so people recognize it.Now we have branding how to get the money ?Every time a user buys a product that has that symbol he automatically is donating a 1% to less fortunate.1. So how small can the amount be? It has to really small something like 1%.2. So will we put that symbol on everything? No we will not, only on luxuries.3. So what is a luxury? Anything that is above the basic. Here are some of the examplesAbove 500 Rs bill at a shopping center – 2.50 Rs gratitudeAbove 500 Rs mobile recharge – 2.50 Rs gratitudeAbove 5000 Rs phone is a luxury - 25 Rs gratitudeAbove 40000 Rs bike is a luxury – 200 Rs gratitudeAbove 300000 Rs car is a luxury – 1500 Rs gratitudeAbove 1000 Rs fuel fill up – 5 Rs gratitudeSo you see how this works there will be a basic price for everything and anything over that will have a 1% gratitude tax. Its small enough people don’t care about it.You can even make a super luxury section where 2% is given like for cars, watches, perfumes, purses, beauty products etc.How to automate this process ?This organization could make deals with mobile operators, super markets, petrol pumps, luxury hotels, movie theaters, amusement parks, everyone who sells luxury items even manufactures. How much will this earn to wipeout poverty ?456.58 million user of mobile in india as of june 2010 – lets assume only  25 % of them are active users 144 million – lets assume only 25 % users recharge every month 28.5 million users – 25% recharges are for 500 Rs which is 7 million X 2.5 Rs Gratitude taxThats 17.5 million rupees just from mobile recharges every month.I intentionally put all the figures low to show you how much this could earn even with the worst estimates. Now add fuel, shopping and everything else luxury and you see how much money this could bring in to the less fortunate every month. How will this money be distributed to less fortunate ?Everyone who is less fortunate will be given a atm card that works with any atm machine. You might think atm cards are complicated for people with no education. This card will be simple, just put in the card anyway, any side and it automatically give you a fixed amount per month which will be alloted by the organization. No pressing buttons or entering anything. This way people less fortunate can get help with some dignity. They don’t have to ask anyone or wait anywhere.Who is less fortunate ?There are many metrics and more smarter people than me who could figure this one out.Even if you don’t implement all this, even a small part of this idea could wipeout poverty in India. People of India are willing to help others as long as it doesn’t take huge effort on their part. And as long as its small enough that they don’t notice. If anyone can implement this let me know, i will help you in any way i can. i don’t have the know how or the resources to implement this. Here is another innovative idea by Sunil Malhotra to help the less fortunate during disastersI personally donate in different way more about it in another post.

iPad hands on impression

Today I played with an iPad of a friend for a while and here are my impressions.First of all its quite small than I imagined. I was expecting something as big as or close to my 13 inch Macbook. But its small like a digital photo frame a bit bigger than that. Only a little bigger than that.Second thing is how heavy it is, I don’t think people will enjoy playing on it holding it in their hand for a long time. But you can easily use it on your lap or arm rest etc.As soon as I turned it on it showed connect to iTunes message. So had to connect it to iTunes and register before I could start using the iPad.The screen, I own an iPhone so that was not such a big deal. But such a big screen with capacitive touch is wonderful to use.Browsing on it looks wonderful, I surfed to quite a few sites on safari and they all look wonderful. And pinch and zoom makes it wonderful to read websites and use internet.I was using this on a wi-fi so pages were loading quite fast. It was a 3G iPad, but we didn’t have a sim so used wi-fi.Photos on this thing look wonderful, so do videos.Even though its hard to get any videos to fill the screen because of the screen size. You will have black bands on top and bottom of the video, but still video looks quite good.Music player on it is quite nice. The sound from the speakers was also quite loud, louder than the iPhone.Music and videos take a couple of touches more on the iPad than the iPhone. Which was quite strange, when you compare how good they are on iPhone. You have to select a video and then go to a page about the video info and then click play. On iPhone you just click a video and it plays.Games look really fun to play on iPad, its made for games especially board games.Over all its a fun experience using it, and the hardware is solid apple build. If you have seen a unibody Macbook it looks quite similar to that. Will I buy one at least not this version, I am excited about iPhone 4 though.I would recommend this to anyone who uses internet a lot and doesn’t type much.My friend got it from overseas, you can buy it in India anywhere from 35000 – 40000 Rs. Apple has not yet officially launched iPad in India. If they price it around 25000 Rs which is what it sells for in USA. I might think about it, but I know they will not sell it for less than 35000 Rs.

11 Billion US dollars or 677 billion rupees for 3G in India

This was the amount Indian Government earned by selling 3G spectrum in India.12 Service providers bought the licenses.580 million mobile users in india at the moment.

20 million new subscribers were added in the month of march.

Since it will take at least four months for the companies to roll out 3G, it will be 660 million mobile users in India by then.

660 million users will have to pay 700 Rs each, for the mobile companies to just get the licencing fees back. We have not added the price of marketing, equipment and other expenses they need to start providing 3G.

As you know only few people take data packages on their mobiles, out of my 5 friends only two have activated the gprs service on their mobiles. I am expecting the same rate of up take in 3G service, only may be about 40% will take the data service.

Now its 264000000 mobile users even that number is extravagant. Even then it will take 2000 Rs each.

There is another problem too, there are people with more than one sim. In fact in the last two years i have changed 4 different carriers and 4 different sims. I will be taking up another sim in a few days time. This time it will be bsnl 3G sim. So that make it five connections out which only one i will be using. So that 40% i talked about could be even smaller.

So it will be long time before these companies start making profit. How many will perish and how many will succeed only time will tell…

Hope Indian government put this money to good use.

New color moon pictures by NASA

colormoon

I found this color moon photos on Nasa’s site.

Its interesting to see how colorless moon is. What kind of light would we have got if moon was red, green or brown color. Something to think about.

How would our colonizing of the moon affect the light we would receive. Will it create shadows of the colonies on the earth during night times. Just something to think about.

Am i getting the whole sun, earth and moon relation wrong comment away.

Google searches 3G prospects in India

There was a news report recently that Google is entering the 3G spectrum auction race.

Don’t dream of getting an Google connection for your mobile. All they are trying to do is what they did in the US. They bid in the 3G auction only to make it open, once they knew it would be open they withdrew from the race.

I am not saying it’s a bad thing, they are in it to just ensure that the 3G auction will be open and the carrier don’t get too much power.

Sources in the telecom industry say Google is looking at broadband wireless access, or BWA, in the country and may participate in the auction with an Indian partner. BWA is also known as Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, or WiMAX.

Htc Hero I recommend

htc hero i recomend

Recently someone asked me on twitter after my Htc Hero post. If i would recommend others buying this phone. I wanted to give him a detailed reply but on twitter you can only write so much. So here is what i think about the phone.

It is a really good phone that will cost you around 32000 Rs. So what do you get for this kind of money. A open phone with android 1.5 operating system. Here are some of the notable specs.

5 mega pixel auto focus camera, GPS, 3G and an open operating system.

It comes with ROM: 512 MB and RAM: 288 MB. So you will need a big memory card if you want to take your music and videos with you, add another 1200 Rs to the price of the phone for a 8 GB card.

So who should buy this phone.

I would recommend this phone for Internet type people. It’s so easy to get to facebook and twitter on this phone. Its even integrated into your contacts and other places on the phone.

It comes with a good browser that can show flash. It has an ever growing market place with all kind of apps.

Gaming is not height priority on this device but you can find some casual games.

So who should not buy this phone

People who watch a lot of videos and take photos with their mobile. This phone has a 5 mega pixel camera but the photos are dull and blurry. Videos play well but not many formats are supported and it takes couple of seconds to skip etc. All these feature are really noticeable when you come from an iPhone.

So if photos are videos are not your main use of phone and if you use Internet and email a lot this is the phone for you.

Unlike the iPhone this can be customised in so many ways that matches your style and use. Also all the content is right on the screen

Last but not the least the phone features it has good phone features, and the bend at the edge of the phone feels very good when you are talking on the phone.

It also has 3G so you are future proof too.

Since i gotten the phone i have been barely able to keep the phone down.

Ndtv and Cnbc you guys suck

News is not what i am talking about, that’s another blog post altogether. What i am talking about is your Tech shows like Gadget Guru, Cell Guru and Tech Toys etc.I really want to find out about the price of gadgets and what is happening in tech industry in India.Your shows suck at showing that information. All you have is guys who talk about anything but gadgets. Finally when they show the gadgets its like a commercial its over before you see it. On cell guru there is a Nokia n96 widget section that i don’t understand the point of. And for the host of Cell guru you are on Tv man fix yourself up.Even i can do better than this, if Tv guys are reading this give me a call.Until then watching web for my gadget news.
