Go watch Safe House

If you haven’t watched “Safe House” why haven’t you. This is one of the best movies of this year according to me. It even tops “Moneyball“ in my list.

Just 5 minutes into the movie the action & suspense starts and it doesn’t stop till the end credits. Even the ending is so satisfying very rare in movies now a days.

Its about CIA and  CIA rouge agent which you learn from the trailer.

This is what i tweeted during the interval. So just the first half is that good, in the second half it gets even better.

So many twist and turn, such intense action all through the movie. In most movies you have some time where you can relax but not in this. It action, action, action.

Denzel Washington best performance ever for me, better than training day. Same goes of Ryan Reynolds.

If you are fan of action movies do yourself a favor and go watch this movie. It was released on 10th february and its still playing to full houses in India

This is the number 1 action movie of all time for me. It just moved above Spy Games which was my number one so far.

After watching this movie if you come and say its bad. Don’t ever come and read my stuff again, you have no taste…

Enough with the new channels

Just saw an ad for Tensports Golf yes that is what we need now.

At the moment we have

Tensports
Tensports Cricket
Tensports Action +

Why do they need another channel just for one sport. Now there are 10 sports channels all ready with nothing on them. Even with all these channels we can’t watch super bowl live or many world sports events live.

Why can’t these channels buy rights of these programs or even request for free rights as a way to promote the sport in this part of the world.

All these channel are showing are repeats, Sport is the one thing that now was wants to watch on repeat or delayed.

It will never go back to the days when we had one channel like star sports that showed all the events live and you didn’t have to search for it.

Now when an event is live you have to search the schedule to see on which channel is carrying it.

Viewer is not happy with the situation. Even broadcasters can’t be happy with this situation, there i no loyalty among viewers.

Who is it for…

Recently Comedy Central channel launched the only program worth watching is the Daily show. All the other programs are repeats from other channels. So they have launched a channel for just one show.

Comedy central could have syndicated daily show to other channels. Why start a new channel for just one show and repeats of other sitcoms. Daily show air nearly 5 times on comedy central.

So stop with the new channels. Bring HD and reduce your channels which will make your viewers and you happy.

Bring some quality and get loyalty back …

Sad trend of remakes and sequels

In hollywood this trend has been going for a few years now. But its starting to take off in India too now.

Its surprising the number of remakes being made within few months of the original.

I don’t mind seeing movies that are dubbed into other languages, don’t remake them again and again.

One such example, many more are out there

in Malayalam as Katha Parayumpol (2007)
in Tamil as Kuselan (2008)
in Telugu as Kathanayakudu (2008)
in Hindi as Billu (2009)

Ghajini, Singam, Kakkakuyil (made into Golmal) etc

There are many such incidents, either movie makers are out of ideas or getting lazy.

Sequels are also becoming a trend. But most of them have not worked so far luckily.

As a moviegoer we are the ones responsible for this trend. Let us all stop watching sequels and remakes, may be then they will start making new movies with original stories.

Here are some ideas for new movies, just take a history book and look at the number of kings and queens in them. Make movies about them.

Jodha Akbar, which was beautifully made was a big hit. We have such a great culture why are more movies not being made about that.

Audience will appreciate a movie if its made with care. Stop making sequels and remakes and you stop watching them.

This song from movie 3 which just had its audio launch. Song is sung & written by the movies hero Dhanush, Shruti Hassan the heroine and music composed by Anirudh.

You just want to hear it again and again, it nice to see such creativity in Indian movie industry, keep it coming. Hoping the movie is also this good. It has more than 27 lakh views and 12000 comment as of this post. Just amazing viral buzz.

India Talent Show – Warriors of Goja AMAZING

This video is from a talent show on Telugu channel called Adhurs. Many people and groups from all over India show off their talents like music, dance, martial arts etc to win the weekly price of 3 lakhs.

This group is called Warriors of Goja from Punjab. They show of their martial arts skills which makes even the judges, who have seen such performances before and still they are stunned into amazement.

This shows that we have many dare devils in India, but they don’t have the opportunity to show off their talents. Hope many such talented dare devils get the chance to showcase their talents to the rest of the world. Guinness book are you looking, they would have broken few records, just take look at the video.

Tatasky mobile universal remote is the best option if you want to control multiple devices like tv, dvd and amplifiers etc. If you just have a tv and set top box its not worth the hassle.

There is a few seconds delay which can get annoying after a while. They also need to improve the app ui interface. now you have to fumble 3 screens to get all the set top box controls.

There is not much they can do technology wise, so all we can hope is a iPad app and a better remote interface. I do have to give them credit for thinking forward with such an audacious idea.

Listening to music in India

What are the options for listening to music in India at the moment. Here are the sites, apps i found for Indian music.

First source has to be YouTube, just search for any song from any language and you can find it on YouTube.

They also have YouTube app for all the mobile devices. Even if they don’t have apps, their mobile site works well on all the devices.

So YouTube is the first place to look for any song, especially if you are looking for a music video.

Saavn


This should be your ultimate destination for bollywood music. They have the most cleanest website and app for bollywood music.

They have apps for android and iPhone.

You can save and share your playlists. You can also tweet or like the songs so that your twitter and Facebook friends can find new songs.

Their app is the best around. Its simple and quite easy to use. they even have the low bandwidth options. It works flawlessly with 3G or WiFi.

The only bad thing about Saavn is that they don’t have other languages at the moment.

Hopefully they will add them in the near future.

Raaga

This service has music from many more languages than Saavn. They have all the songs from Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and many more languages.

Their website is filled with ads but is useable. They could cut down 1 or 2 ads which could improve the service quite a bit.

Their app is quite buggy at the moment, hopefully they will improve it in future. If you want a app with music from most of the Indian languages then you only have Raaga service there are no other options.

Site is filled with ads and app is quite buggy, if they can do anything to improve both these things their service could be a must have for many.

Music India Online

This is a website only service, again filled with ad’s why can’t these sites just stick to 1 ad and charge a premium for it.

They too have music from most Indian languages and its easy to use.

They don’t have a mobile site or any mobile apps.

Most of these sites rely on flash so even if they want to they can’t implement mobile friendly sites. Which is quite sad situation, hoping they will bring apps soon for all the major mobile os and compete with Raaga.

Which will be only good for consumers.

Google music India

This is a search function but it presents the music results in a very clean format from where you can also listen to music in a pop up.

If you just want to listen to one song and don’t want to worry about sharing and playlists. This should be your first option.

There is no mobile feature which would have made discovering music on mobiles quite easy.

Nice to see so many music service which are legitimate. If only some one could bring iTunes like purchasing for Indian music at Indian prices. No one is going to pay 45 Rs per song but may be 10 Rs like Manoramic tried. Sadly that site is shutdown, hopefully apple or some other media company provides such service soon. Until then enjoy free streaming music from these services.

Tatasky Universal remote is the way to go

Just a few days back tatasky updated their iPhone app which allows remote recording. Now with this update they have changed the whole app.

Now you can use the app with a 350 Rs accessary into a universal remote that controls all your devices. Tv, Dvd and Tata sky set top box etc.

This is a cool way to do it because they can keep updating the software when ever they want to change the features add devices etc.

They have also integrated Twitter and Facebook so that you can update your status with which program you are watching. You can talk to other users who are watching that same program via Twitter or Facebook through the app.

I have ordered the accessary, will review the device once i get it.

To get the device

Just SMS ‘APPLE’ to 56633 from your Registered Mobile No. (RMN), and the MP3 Mobile accessory will be couriered to your registered address. The amount will be deducted from your Tata Sky account.

This accessory works on all iOS devices except 1 generation iPhone. It will even work with iPad’s. They say android version of the app is coming.

I got a call from tatasky and they said it could take up to 30 days to deliver the device.

Its free for some customers i am guessing it is free for customers who have Tatasky HD+ and mega annual plan.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides movie review

Saw Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides yesterday. It was a morning show @ 10:00 am and still the theater was full.

Before going to watch the movie i didn’t have big expectations for the movie because as with each sequel the story got more and more convoluted. If some story and good visual were there i would have been happy. And it didn’t disappoint even though the story is a bit convoluted, compared to the previous movies its good.

If you love Jack sparrow you will love this one, unlike the other movies where it felt like he was doing cameo among other characters. This time he is in 95% of the movie, i am finding it hard to think of a scene where is not present. So its Jack Sparrow all the way and Johnny Depp doesn’t disappoint, he is funny and at his manipulative best.

I will not spoil the movie by revealing all the story details. Its about finding the fountain of youth as revealed in the trailer. I had my doubt about Penélope Cruz and i didn’t like her in the movie. But Johnny Depp makes anyone look good. All in all a good fun summer entertainer, and in the end they leave a loop hole for the next movie.

This movie has made 400 million in just 4 days worldwide so expect a sequel for sure. Hoping Jack Sparrow forgot Captain Jack Sparrow continues to entertain us for long time to come.

A good summer movie and is a must watch.

Best lines of the movie for me was by Johnny Depp saying “Did everyone see that? Because I will *not* be doing it again.” & “You know that feeling you get when you’re standing in a high place… sudden urge to jump?… I don’t have it.”
